Pair jump from second-story window in Cañon City, both arrested.

Two men in a vacant home in Fremont County jumped from a second-story window in an attempt to flee deputies, but both were captured and arrested, with one suspect armed, according to the sheriff’s office.

On Thursday at about 6:40 p.m. deputies were sent to the area of Elm Avenue and Willow Street in Cañon City on a report of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies arrived and found an unoccupied truck in the 1500 block of Willow. They checked nearby properties and found locks pried off the door of a vacant house.

Deputies heard people upstairs in the home and shouted out verbal commands. Deputies then heard glass break, with the two suspects jumping out a window and fleeing on foot.

At about 7 p.m. one suspect was apprehended in the 1800 block of Elm, according to a news release. He was identified as 36-year-old Morris Bentley Swift of Cañon City. Swift was armed with a gun, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested without further incident.
