Plateau fire tops 10,000 acres, driven by gusty winds and hot weather – The Denver Post

Driven by high winds and energized by hot temperatures and low humidity, the Plateau fire in Western Colorado grew more than 2,000 acres in a single day, officials say.

The 10,673-acre wildfire, located about 14 miles northeast of Dolores, is now at 36 percent containment, but gusty winds and hot weather could help the fire extend its boundaries Friday.

An additional 40 firefighters arrived Thursday to help extinguish the blaze, which is the largest active wildfire in Colorado.
