A graphic celebrating Pride Month was shared by the United States Navy Special Warfare Command on its Facebook page on June 1. The image featured rainbow hues along with the organization’s emblem and the phrases “dignity,” “service,” “respect,” “equality,” and “pride.”
One of the top three liked comments under the post read, “This is a slap in the face of every special warfare operator that has put their lives on the line for our nation.” Another popular remark stated, “Man, this woke stuff is like a cancer and needs to be dealt with as a threat to national security. It’s gone way too far.” While these two comments were met with approval from many users, another user expressed his relief at having left the military prior to such changes, stating, “I am so glad I got out before this bullsh*t took over.”
Libs of TikTok drew attention to the issue when they wrote about the event, saying, “The Navy Seals have gone woke. Our elite special forces. This is terrifying.” In response, Carl Higbee, a former Navy SEAL, and Newsmax show host, tweeted, “Negative ghost rider.”
Although June marks both Pride Month and PTSD (Post Trauma Stress Disorder) awareness month, the order of posts released by the Navy Special Warfare Command differed significantly. Unlike the Pride Month post, where only approved individuals can leave comments, there were no restrictions placed on those wishing to share thoughts regarding the PTSD awareness campaign.
Previously, the US Navy faced criticism following reports that they welcomed an openly gay drag performer named Harpy Daniels into their digital ambassadors program aimed towards increasing recruitment. With the help of the Navy, Harpy Daniels received specialized training and served as a sailor. He even admitted to performing drag shows during deployments aboard aircraft carriers.
