Canadians are notoriously polite people. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if a Canadian “breaks bad” and goes on a crime spree, have we got a story for you! A Canadian man – possibly an illegal alien, but no one has confirmed it yet – played a bizarre prank at “The Goonies” house in the coastal town of Astoria, Oregon this week. The next day, he issued a distress call from a yacht he somehow stole, and had to be rescued by the Coast Guard before he was arrested for his bizarre crime spree.

Most members of Generation X can still quote lines from the Richard Donner movie “The Goonies” to this day. All of us from that generation have seen the film somewhere between 50 and 100 times. If you’re a Gen Xer, go ahead and admit it: You can hear the lyrics of the Cyndi Lauper theme song from “The Goonies” right now, can’t you? You’re welcome.

Anyway, the main house used for the film is still standing in Astoria today, and it’s a major tourist attraction. The owners have always let people stop by and take pictures – and now selfies in this day and age – in front of the home. The house is actually going to be preserved as a historic landmark, specifically because of the movie.

But a few days ago, a dastardly Canadian man who may have snuck into the country played a really mean prank at “The Goonies” house. He snuck up to the house and left a large, dead fish on the front porch. Then he did a weird dance in the front yard. He posted a video of himself doing this on his Facebook page.

The criminal has been identified as 35-year-old Jericho Labonte, from British Columbia. When a friend saw Labonte’s bizarre video on Facebook, they called the police in Oregon. We’re assuming because of this little factoid that this behavior is probably typical of Labonte, and the Canadian friend was thinking, “Uh oh. Jericho’s at it again, eh?”

The following day, the Coast Guard received a distress call from a yacht out in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Astoria. And guess who made that distress call?

Yep. Jericho Labonte. When a Canadian turns to a life of crime, things accelerate quickly. It turns out that Labonte went from committing mean pranks at “The Goonies” house to stealing a yacht within a very short amount of time. It’s pretty ugly. Sad, really.

It’s hard to believe, but the story takes an even darker turn at this point. Jericho Labonte… does not actually know how to drive a boat. He got himself into serious trouble in the rough swells, and a Coast Guard rescue swimmer had to save him from the stolen yacht. And the whole thing was captured on video by the Coast Guard!

This video is simply amazing. The swimmer is approaching the yacht and you can see Labonte on the back of the boat, clearly not knowing what he’s doing. A massive wave rises up and completely rolls the boat. You’ll feel bad for the yacht owner when you watch this. We hope his boat was insured.

The good news is that this Canadian criminal has been taken off the streets, so he can’t menace anyone else with dead fish or steal any yachts. Watch the dramatic video as a Coast Guard rescue swimmer saves this knucklehead from getting himself killed.
