A California state legislator has sparked outrage by introducing a bill that would gut self-defense protections for citizens, threatening their ability to protect homes and property, according to a Monday report by RedState. Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur, a Los Angeles Democrat, proposed AB1333, which would overhaul the state’s self-defense laws, stripping the right to use deadly force in defense of property or habitation and imposing strict new limits. For conservatives, this is a direct attack on Second Amendment rights and personal safety, proving California’s liberal elite are out of touch with reality.

Zbur’s bill targets Section 197 of the California Penal Code, redefining justifiable homicide to remove legal protection for killing someone while defending property or home, even if excessive force isn’t used. Critics, including civil liberties attorney Laura Powell, slammed the move on X.

“Assemblymember Zbur of Los Angeles County introduced AB1333, which would make it more difficult for victims of crime to claim self defense,” Powell wrote. “It eliminates the use of deadly force for protection of the home and property and imposes a slew of other limitations.”

Powell, a self-described “former leftist, still a liberal,” warned the bill’s timing is reckless, given California’s high-crime reality.

“If we lived in a low-crime society with exceptional law enforcement, maybe this would be a reasonable law,” she added. “In reality, it feels like the wild, wild west in much of California.”

The bill aligns with California’s strict gun laws, per Wikipedia, where the state constitution lacks an explicit individual right to bear arms, upheld by courts favoring restrictions. Zbur’s move follows Governor Gavin Newsom’s anti-gun push, like SB 1327, which hikes fees on gun law challengers, per RedState’s earlier reports. Posts on X lit up—one user fumed, “Zbur’s gutting self-defense—California’s a sitting duck for criminals.” Another wrote, “This proves Dems hate law-abiding citizens—Trump’s Second Amendment stance is the answer.”

Republicans see this as a dire threat. California’s 187,000 unsheltered homeless, per last year’s count, and rising crime rates—driven by Biden’s soft-on-crime policies—leave residents vulnerable. Trump’s January 20 “emergency price relief” memo and DOGE’s $55 billion cuts signal the national fix—restore order, protect rights, and prioritize Americans. With over 70 lawsuits challenging Trump’s moves, this bill fuels the GOP’s resolve to fight California’s liberal overreach.

Zbur’s legislation would criminalize self-defense, even in clear danger, per a Grok AI analysis cited by RedState. Ward Clark, a RedState contributor, warned, “If this passes, victims could face jail for protecting their homes—pure insanity.” Conservatives know Biden’s policies—open borders, defunding police—emboldened crime, and Zbur’s bill compounds that. With DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s deportation raids and FBI Director Kash Patel’s Epstein push, Republicans are ready to back Trump’s vision, ensuring California’s citizens retain their God-given rights to self-defense, as voters demanded in 2024.
