Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) proudly confirmed that she nailed the Democrats’ No. 2 slot on the House Oversight Committee Monday evening. AOC will take 2nd in command seat for House Democrats under ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).

This news means that she will play a more significant role in helping to create her party’s strategy and messaging. This will happen while the GOP uses the committee to investigate President Biden and his family.

“Excited and humbled to share that this evening I was selected to serve as @RepRaskin’s #2 on the House Oversight Committee. Thank you to my colleagues on @OversightDems for entrusting me with this responsibility. I’m thrilled to get to work with our incredible Oversight team!” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

AOC let it be known last week that there were “conversations” about her role in the party’s no. 2 spot. Raskin, who has worked with AOC before, served on the January 6 Committee. He has been undergoing treatment for cancer.

Raskin has previously poured out praise for Ocasio-Cortez and said he wanted to use her to the “maximum effect on the committee.”

During the previous session of Congress, AOC served as the vice chairwoman of the committee’s subpanel on civil rights and civil liberties.

She is becoming a star in the Democratic Party and there is speculation that she might be considering a challenge against incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) in 2024.

Republicans will lead the House Oversight Committee under Chairman James Comer (R-KY). They will be working to deploy the powerful panel to raise the heat on the Biden administration.

Comer has already announced the committee will examine Biden’s classified document controversy. They also will likely dig into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.

Along with the Biden family, the Republicans will look into the origins of the COVID-19 respiratory illness and the chaos at the southern border.
