Lifelong Democrat Switches Parties, Gives Louisiana GOP a Historic Supermajority

People who are Democrats and still mentally healthy are finding themselves increasingly isolated as voices of reason in their crazy party. They either have to go along with the transgender weirdness, assaults on the family, child grooming, and Trump Derangement Syndrome, or they get devoured by their own side. As a result, another Democrat has just switched parties, and this is a big deal. He’s a member of the Louisiana state House of Representatives, and his defection has given the GOP a supermajority in that state for the first time in history.

State Representative Francis Thompson, a lifelong Democrat, announced that he was switching parties last Friday. Republicans already had a supermajority in the Louisiana Senate. Thompson’s switch to the Republican Party now gives the legislature a GOP supermajority in both houses.
So, what was the reason for Thompson’s switch from the death cult to the party of life? All of the reasons listed above, but mainly the transgender weirdness that has captivated the Democrats. In a brief and polite statement, Thompson said, “The push the past several years by Democratic leadership on both the national and state level to support certain issues does not align with those values and principles that are part of my Christian life.”

The fact that Thompson is 81 years old may have played a part in the decision as well. He knows he probably doesn’t have that many years left on earth, so he doesn’t want to go to hell for being a Democrat.

Louisiana ended up with a Democrat governor in 2016, when Republican voters refused to turn out for the limp-wristed RINO, Sen. David Vitter, in the gubernatorial contest. John Bel Edwards has been the governor ever since, so it’s been a transgender festival in Louisiana in recent years, despite Republicans having majorities in both houses of the legislature.

Thompson first caucused with the GOP in 2021, when Governor Bel Edwards vetoed a pair of perfectly reasonable, common-sense bills. One would have expanded concealed carry laws for Louisianans. The other would have banned mentally ill transgender dudes from stealing all the girls’ sports trophies in schools.

Thompson joined Republicans in calling for the state’s first-ever veto override session. Unfortunately, those veto overrides failed in the House, when Republicans fell two votes short. The GOP gained another seat in the 2022 midterms. And now with Thompson’s defection, they have the votes to override any and all of Governor Bel Edwards’s transgender wackiness.

A new transgender ban on girls’ sports just made its way through the legislature again, and Gov. Bel Edwards had until Monday morning of this week to veto it. But after Thompson switched parties on Friday, Bel Edwards knew that his hopeless fight to allow dudes to wreck girls’ high school sports was over. He didn’t even bother vetoing the bill, so now it’s become the law of the land in Louisiana. Girls’ sports are still girls’ sports.

This is a great win for parents, girls, sports, and America. Congratulations to Rep. Thompson for doing the right thing and following his Christian conscience.

And here’s another bright spot to think about right now. US Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is furious with Joe Biden for his latest veto of an anti-ESG bill in the Senate. We could soon see a national defection in the Senate, which would give the GOP control of that body. This would make it even easier for Republicans to push back against the Biden regime’s America Last agenda.

Manchin knows, just as Thompson knew, that his party has gone totally crazy. You can almost hear the clock ticking on an announcement coming from Manchin’s office very soon.
